The main purpose of a dancer is to have a significant role on stage and pull it off. This said, to accomplish this goal, dancers must train as often as possible to know the ins and outs of the choreography and of the dance techniques. A dancer must learn many complicated dance routines. All dancers warm up to avoid any injuries that could happen while dancing. Dancers also make shows, sometimes there are even more than one show in the same day. Dancer must be able to work alone because in solos, they can't rely on anyone else. But, they must also be able to work in teams because there are a lot of groups choreography or a lot of work with a choreographer therefore, teamwork is important.

What do dancers do on a typical day?

Before class, time management is key for a dancer because he or she must prepare for technique class by warming up, because there isn't time when the teacher arrives. Then, there is about an hour and a half of technique class. During this time, the teacher corrects and criticize the dancer's techniques. After the class, the rehearsal starts. The rehearsals are very demanding because the dancers must remember all the choreography and sometimes even the ones that they aren't performing in case someone gets injured. Therefore, rehearsals can overwhelm inters or new professional dancers. Also, there aren't a lot of breaks. Therefore, it is important to stay hydrated to have the energy that is needed, because even though it is understandable, no dancer can use as an excuse that they are tired. After the long day, most of them will stretch and ice their body or take a bath to help the muscles relax.

The chances that dancers will be replaced by robots are slim to none. Only a human can move his or her body in all directions and can push it to the maximum. Even more, dance require acting skills to express various emotions while performing. But a robot does have some qualities that would be helpful for a dancer. A lot of dancers have to stop their careers in their thirties, because of injuries. After a dancing career, there is always the possibility for a dancer to teach or to choreograph. Thus, the dance career isn't completely over. But all dancers have a different retirement time.

Conclusion

As for me, I am still a trainee in a classical dance company, but I am on the verge of finishing my Double DEC in dance. At the end of this school year, I will have a college degree in contemporary dance. I am going to pursue my training at Quebec University in Montreal. I want to have a career in the dance company I am currently in, but I would also like to dance in at least one musical theater production, although my final goal is to choreograph.
